Michele Molek

Owner and artist, Michele Molek, has studied advanced paint and plaster techniques under nationally acclaimed Master Finishers and is a member of the International Decorative Artisans League (IDAL).  She continues to stay abreast of the latest finishing techniques and design trends by attending training and industry events annually.

Michele is originally from a small town outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  As a child and teenager she could always be found doing something creative – painting posters for the high school football team, making prom bouquets for her friends, or just redecorating her room over and over again.  When college rolled around, instead of following her passion for art and design, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology.  Following her high school sweetheart turned husband around the globe as an Army wife, Michele worked with military families and disable veterans in a counseling role for several years.  Her first attempt at decorative finishing came in 1996 when she did a glazed finish in her own kitchen. After that, she did a few other painting projects from time to time for friends, family, and herself.   In 2003, after relocating for the final time before her husband’s military retirement, Michele found herself in North Carolina preparing to find yet another counseling gig.  That was until a contractor visited her home and commented on her beautiful “wallpaper”.  When he learned that in fact it was a painted finish done by none other than the homeowner herself, the contractor was intrigued and encouraged Michele to think about doing it professionally as the area was in need of such a skill.  She decided to go for it and after taking a few classes from some of the best in the biz, she leased a studio/showroom space, and opened Fashionable Finishes in 2005.  Now, 18 years later, Michele has a thriving career that brings her much joy (and many body aches). She completes projects in homes across the US and spent four years as a backdrop and prop artist for the NFL on CBS Sports. Still happily married arried for nearly 30 years to that same wonderful man who never knows what new painting project he will come home to, Michele’s biggest accomplishment is her two amazing ids, daughter Reagan and son Gunner.
